The Complete X (Twitter) Growth Playbook for Indie Hackers

X (Twitter) is the single best free channel for indie hackers to build an audience, validate ideas, and launch products. But most founders do it wrong, they post randomly, get zero engagement, and give up after two weeks. This playbook is the complete system, broken into four phases: profile setup, engagement & posting, product launch, and post-launch growth.

Step 1: Set Up Your Profile

Before posting anything, your profile needs to convert visitors into followers. One of your posts may go viral, but what's the point of going viral if people who open your profile don't follow you? Here's the secret: people don't care about you. People only care about themselves. So if your profile makes people feel that they will get something out of you or out of the information you're sharing, they will follow you.

Avatar

Use a clear image of yourself that stands out and is unique to you. When people see your posts on their feed over and over, they need to instantly think "oh, this is that person." Good examples are Florin or Marc, who put a really bright color behind their background, which catches attention. But don't copy someone else's exact style. The whole point is to stand out.

Bio

Put your exact goal and/or main struggle right in the bio. Your goal and struggle resonate with people who are in a similar situation, and they follow your story.

Find a goal and a struggle that your target audience shares. Make it specific. ‘$1K MRR’ works way better than ‘growing my business.’ People need to see themselves in your bio.

Copy-Paste Template

[Your main goal] → [Your main struggle]

Example: Growing my SaaS to $1K MRR while working 9–5

Pro Tip

Include a specific number in your goal - "$1K MRR" resonates way harder than "growing a business." People connect with specifics.
